Laser Hair Removal in Korea

Laser hair removal is an energy-based treatment that uses a focused beam of light to target the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. The light is absorbed and converted to heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to regrow hair. Because the laser acts on actively growing follicles, a course of several sessions spaced weeks apart is needed to treat hairs as they cycle through the growth phase.

Korean clinics commonly use alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser systems, on devices such as GentleMax Pro, Apogee Elite Plus and Clarity II. The alexandrite wavelength is well absorbed by finer, lighter hair near the surface, while the longer Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deeper and is generally chosen for darker or thicker skin. A contact cooling tip protects the surrounding skin during each pulse. This is a non-surgical procedure performed by a licensed physician or under physician supervision.

Treatment is planned as a course rather than a single visit. A typical small area such as the upper lip or underarms is priced over 5 sessions, while larger areas like the full face, legs or the bikini/VIO region also follow a multi-session schedule. Sessions are usually spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart so that the laser can target follicles entering a new growth phase, and progressive thinning of regrowth is seen across the course.

Each session itself is short — minutes for a small zone, longer for a full area — and there is generally no downtime, so most people return to normal activity the same day. Mild redness or a warm sensation around the treated follicles can occur briefly. The treating clinic advises specific aftercare, such as using sun protection and avoiding heat or strong friction on the area for a short period. Some clinics also offer longer-term plans, for example a full-face one-year unlimited course.
