Fat-dissolving Injections in Korea

Fat-dissolving injections, also called lipolysis or lipo injections, are a non-surgical way to reduce small, stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise. A solution is injected directly into the targeted fat layer, where it disrupts fat-cell membranes so the fat is gradually broken down and cleared by the body. Common areas include the double chin, jawline, flanks, arms and calves.

A widely used active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a bile-acid compound that destroys fat-cell walls; other formulations use body-contour or 'slim' injection blends. Expected after-effects include temporary swelling, tenderness, firmness or bruising at the injection sites, which generally settle over several days — this swelling is part of how the treatment works. Injectable deoxycholic acid for reduction of submental (under-chin) fat was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trial by Jones DH et al., Dermatologic Surgery, 2016, which reported significant reduction in submental fat versus placebo.
